Collector Job Responsibilities
Provide quality service to members and team members as defined by the credit union?s service standards at all times.
Warmly acknowledge and greet members with a sincere smile upon arrival at one of our offices.
Provide comprehensive, prompt, accurate, and efficient member transactions.
Contact members and co-signers with delinquent loans, balances exceeding credit limits, or overdrawn accounts by telephone and mail to determine the reasons for delinquency or status, and assist them in developing plans to bring accounts to a current status.
Develop workout plans and collect on overdue accounts wherever possible.
Ensure professional interface with members.
Optimize collections on accounts while balancing the goodwill of members with the overall business interests of the credit union.
Maintain detailed record of all collection activity on accounts via the credit union?s delinquent loan recovery system.
Secure credit bureau reports.
Skip trace on loan accounts.
Maintain accurate data for repossession log, bankruptcy files, charge-off list, etc.
Initiate legal action in small claims court and appear as credit union representative in court.
Refer accounts as necessary to credit union attorneys for legal action; monitor attorney activities.
Determine when loan collateral should be repossessed/foreclosed, obtain management approval, and serve as liaison with attorneys or agencies in handling repossession or foreclosure of collateral.
Conduct sale of collateral when necessary.
File all claims, attend hearings, and coordinate with trustees for all bankruptcy filings not handled by the credit union?s attorney.
Receive and process garnishments and levies issued against member accounts.
Recommend accounts for charge-off to management.
Review charged-off loans periodically and attempt to secure repayment.
Review results of collection efforts frequently with management and recommend appropriate action.
Investigate and correct discrepancies in credit bureau reports.
Comply with and maintain an up-to-date and comprehensive knowledge of all related policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
Ensure that all information and transactions regarding credit union members are kept confidential.
Enforce strict adherence to established security procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned.
