Accounting Specialist

Role:
To support the financial management and operations of the Credit Union through maintenance of accounting records and reports; perform a wide variety of advanced accounting work under minimal supervision.
Prepares special reports exercising considerable initiative in arranging details to obtain end objectives.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
50% - Posting of journal entries, filing, and assisting in preparation of reports, posting to and balancing general or subsidiary ledgers.
20% - Prepares reports on complex accounting general ledger records; prepares special reports exercising considerable initiative in arranging details to obtain end objectives.
25% - Reviews and verifies the accuracy of journal entries and accounting classifications assigned to various records.
5% - Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Performance Measurements:
1.
To meet established expectations of ELGA's Core Factors including but not limited to Accountability, Attitude, Communication, Competence, Continuous Improvement & Innovation and Relationship Building.
2.
General ledger postings and reconcilements are current and in balance.
3.
Reports are produced within prescribed time frames and with no errors.
4.
Specialized report requests are researched and resolved in a timely and accurate manner.
5.
General ledger and subsidiary records are maintained in compliance with ELGA policies and procedures, GAAP, and all other relevant controls.
Knowledge and Skills:
Experience: Three years to five years of similar or related experience.
Education: (1) A two-year college degree, or (2) completion of a specialized certification or licensing, or (3) completion of specialized training courses conducted by vendors, or (4) job-specific skills acquired through an apprenticeship program.
Interpersonal Skills: Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization for the purpose of first-level conflict resolution, building relationships, and soliciting cooperation.
Discussions involve a higher degree of confidentiality and discretion, requiring diplomacy and tact in communication.
Other Skills:
1.
Must be able to operate general office equipment including 10-key calculator and be able to use PC spreadsheet software.
2.
Must be experienced and knowledgeable with accounting terms and processes.
Work Environment: Work is primarily conducted in the office with flexibility for occasional remote work.
